Behind the Books Blog Entries: What exactly is the iplaysoccer! book series?
What is this project all about?
LearnSport Books was established to explain and simplify foundational sports concepts for the benefit of children, parents, and coaches as they progress together in sport. We believe that sports are games and should be fun. However, learning the nuances of team sports can be especially challenging for youth, as team sports involve ever-moving and interactive parts that require players to learn and understand increasingly complex rules and regulations. LearnSport Books aspires to expand and develop the ways in which children think about team sports’ concepts, tactics, and terminology. Our focus is on teaching children how to think independently, while also maintaining a collective understanding of the team during competition. This is an essential skill that helps young players not only in sport, but also in life. To that end, no matter the level of play, the coach is the teacher, the player is the student, and LearnSport Books is merely the provider of educational and fun tools designed to reinforce what should be learned on the training ground.
Our titles are not intended to supplant the instruction of a coach, or the time a child spends learning a sport by playing it. Rather, our purpose is to assist young players with their comprehension of sport in a way that is engaging, inspiring, and empowering.
Soccer is a game, thus, it is meant to be fun. This is the first and most basic fundamental concept any person can impart to a young player. The iPlaySoccer! learning book series is designed to teach children foundational concepts and vocabulary words that assist the child, the parent, and the coach, as they all enjoy progression and development together in the beautiful game. As a team game, soccer has ever-moving and interactive parts that require its players—more than any other team sport—to think independently while also maintaining a collective understanding with their teammates during the contest. Learning to think for themselves and working together during competition helps young players not only in the game of soccer, but more importantly, in life.
The iPlaySoccer! book titles are not intended to replace the instruction of a coach, or the time a child spends learning the game by playing it.
Rather, the purpose of these books is to assist the player in learning fundamental vocabulary and concepts in order to understand the game as it becomes more complex.
Each and every idea for the topics addressed in the iPlaySoccer! series stems not only from playing and parenting and coaching youth soccer players, but are teaching concepts derived directly from the synthesis of applicable portions of the US Soccer Curriculum, the Best Practices for Coaching Soccer in the United States, the Official US Youth Soccer Coaching Manual, the US Youth Soccer Player Development Model, the US Youth Soccer Skills School Manual, the USSF Position Statements & Best Practices for Player Development and the 2015 US Soccer Player Development Initiatives.
We would love for you to try out a couple of titles with your youth soccer players and let us know what you think! Buy the books and download our fee app by clicking here!
